Services: A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday morning at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover.
Visitation: Viewings will be Thursday evening 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover and in the church parlor Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
Dorothy I. Ruggles, 87, of Hanover, PA entered into God’s eternal care Monday morning, April 16, 2007 at Hanover Hospital. She was the loving wife of Ralph R. Ruggles, Jr.Born in Rapid City, SD on October 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Arizona Viola Hackert Doel.Raised in western United State, Dorothy graduated from Fremont High School in Nebraska then attended the University of Nebraska before graduating from the Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln Nebraska.She then accepted a position with the National Producing Co. in Kansas City, MO and was chosen to direct home town shows throughout the United States. In 1940, her travels brought her to Redeemer Church in Littlestown where she met and selected Ralph to be a cast member in the musical “Loose Ankles” . Following the show, they kept in touch by correspondence even during the War years while Ralph was serving in the Army. Finally, Ralph proposed and on July 30, 1943 they were married.Following World War II, they moved to Littlestown to raise their family. Along the way, Mrs. Ruggles went to work for the Department of Agriculture serving as a Clerk/Typist for 10 years before retiring in 1977.She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover Elks Auxiliary, National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees and the Adams-Hanover Local NARFE Chapter 1797.In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons Rev. Ronald W. Ruggles, Sr. and wife Jane Catheryne (Strausbaugh) Ruggles of Paducah, KY, Douglas A. Ruggles of New York City, NY, 3 grandchildren Ronald W. Ruggles, Jr., Tracey Leigh Ruggles, Erin Aileen Ruggles, 2 nieces Claudette Sekutera and Tasha Schenck.Mrs. Ruggles was preceded in death by a brother and 3 sisters.A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday morning at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover. Viewings will be Thursday evening 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover and in the church parlor Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The Rev.William Garrett will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331.Serving as Pallbearers will be: Ronald W. Ruggles, Jr., L. Edward Ruggles, Kenneth E. Ruggles, Jr., Christopher Miller, David Miller, Glenn Holland, John Holland, and John Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracey Ruggles and Erin Ruggles.
