Dorothy “Dot” Boyer. 92, of Hanover, PA, San Bruno, CA, and San Jose, CA, joined her husband, Harry, and her (13) siblings in Heaven on August 13, 2019, where the card games, puzzles, and memories were quickly shared.

Born on February 13, 1927 in Hanover, PA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John F. Bennett and Adelaide Noel Bennett. She was preceded in death by nine brothers; William, Francis, John, Thomas, Joseph, Robert, Fred, Richard, and Michael Bennett and four sisters; Nuns, Sister Adelaide Bennett & Sister Frances Celine Bennett, Helen Smith, and Ethel Resh.

A 1946 graduate of Delone Catholic High school in Hanover, PA, Dorothy enjoyed sewing and completing puzzles as well as being a master at needlepoint, winning numerous awards on the local and state level. She was also a long-time, die-hard fan of the San Francisco Giants until her recent death and reveled in the 2010, 2012, and 2014 World Series Championships. Dorothy was blessed to live on Cypress Avenue in San Bruno for 60 years.

Dorothy was a proud veteran of the United States Navy after enlisting in 1951 and serving until 1955. She was trained as a Naval Medical Corpsman and proudly was one of the first Naval non-commissioned females to be given ship duty during the Korean conflict. While on board the USS Altman, she met her future husband, Radio Officer Harry Boyer and they married in February, 1955.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Mary Taylor and her husband Patrick of San Jose, CA; and grandchildren; Bennett Patrick and his wife, Aleksandra of Seattle, WA; Andrew John of Honolulu, HI; McKenzie Adelaide and her husband, Ryan Featherstone of Woodbridge, VA; and one remaining sister, Patricia Zdankowski of New Jersey.

A family only graveside service and burial will be held at St. Vincent’s cemetery in Hanover, PA on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11am; with a reception to follow.

Given Dorothy’s strong Catholic faith and fondness of the Jesuits, the family asks in lieu of flowers to please make a donation in Dorothy’s memory to the Jesuit community c/o Bellarmine College Preparatory at 960 West Hedding Street, San Jose, CA 95126.
