Doris Dow Andrews, 95, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on September 28, 1927 in Fort Kent, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Drew and Lena Marquis Dow. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Leon P. Andrews, Jr.; two sons, Leon P. Andrews III, and Peter A. Andrews; and three brothers Henry, Drew, and Ralph Dow. Doris received her nursing degree from Richter's College and worked as a registered nurse in Boston, MA hospitals. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, NC where she led the altar guild and did pastoral care. Doris was also a frequent donor to the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah A. Stick, of Hanover, and Melanie C. Andrews of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two siblings, Allan Dow of Fort Kent, Maine; and Dora Dow Rutherford of Michigan; daughter-in-law, Thora K. Andrews of Peachtree City, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date in Wilmington, NC.
