Dorcas B. Smith, 79, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, September 6, 2013 at her home.
Born on Tuesday, July 31, 1934 in York, she was a daughter of the late Harold F. and Minerva I. Lau Bousum, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John F. Smith, who died in 2008. She was a 1952 graduate of Eichelberger High School.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as the church’s financial secretary for more than 15 years, retiring in 1984. She was also a member of the Hanover Elks BPOE #763 Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer with American Red Cross Blood Services, AARP’s Blood Recruiter Program, PAL lunches and the York County Friendly Visitor Program.
Survivors include her son, Steven S. Smith and his wife, Karen, of Cheshire, CT; a daughter, Kimberly A. Fowler and her husband, Anthony, of New Cumberland; two sisters, Josephine B. Kopp of Emmaus and Geraldine B. Hilbert of Naples, FL; and five grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, and Katherine Smith, and Ivan and Benjamin Fowler.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 13, 2013 at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Rev. Beth Folkemer officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.
