Donald P. Willet, 96, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Hanover Hospital.



Born Saturday, June 29, 1918 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Edward D. and Margie Lawrence Willet. He was also precede d by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Burgard Willet, who died in 2007; three brothers, Carl, Burnell and John Willet; and six sisters, Mildred Horwedel, Marie Carbaugh, Ruth Cover, Gladys Willet, Rita Eckenrode and Miriam Sanders. He was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School.



Mr. Willet was employed by the Selected Service for many years and later transferred to the US Department of Agriculture. Following his retirement, he was worked for Menchey Music Service in Hanover. He served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II and received the Jubilee of Liberty Medal following the D-Day invasion of Normandy Beach. He was a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Parish, McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, and the Hanover AmVets Post #22. He was an active member of the Exchange Club of Hanover, and a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association. After his retirement, he loved to play golf and bingo. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family.



Survivors include his son, Steven D. Willet and his wife, Holly, of Spring Grove; three grandsons, Eric Willet and his wife, Lisa, Josh Willet and his companion, Aimee Sirmon, and Todd Willet; two step-granddaughters, Laura Williams and her husband, Mike, and Amber Walter; two great-grandchildren, Kolton and Kiara Willet; and a sister, Jane Swope of McSherrystown.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, celebrated by The Rev. John D. Schmalhofer. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.



A service of remembrance by the Exchange Club of Hanover will take place at 10 am Thursday at the church followed by a viewing to be held until the time of the service.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
