Donald Spencer Truitt, 88, of New Oxford and formerly of Pleasant Valley, went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 22, 2017 at York Hospital.
Born on Tuesday, September 17, 1929 in Bethel, DE, he was a son of the late Oliver and Mary Spencer Truitt. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Truitt, who died in 2006, and his five siblings, Louise, Lewis, Mary Nevette, Marian, and Oliver “Tuck”.
A retired police officer from the Sparrows Point Police Department, Donald was a member of the United States Army, where he had served as a military policeman in New Mexico. He had many hobbies which included target shooting, learning history, farming, and being a vehicle enthusiast. He was an avid conversationalist who always made friends wherever he went. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Resig and her husband, Robert, of Hanover and Amy Barksdale and her husband, Leland, of Littlestown; three grandchildren, Tim Cassidy and Dan Tanner, both of Hanover and Sarah Bell Tanner Ashe and her husband, Nicholas, of McSherrystown; a beloved brother, Wayne Burger, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of New Oxford; and the numerous special friends that he had made throughout the time he had spent at the Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 1903 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, MD with The Rev. Mark Ginter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to the Good Samaritan Fund of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
