Donald E. “Mac” McMaster, 81, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, May 26, 2011 following a period of declining health.
Born on September 19, 1929 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Curvin McMaster and Elsie Mae McMaster Bender. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Roberta Wright McMaster; a grandson, Adam Lippy; a sister, Mary Grimen ; his step-father, Richard A. Bender and two brothers, Curvin and Richard McMaster.
A member of the United States National Guard, he served our country during World War II. He was employed by Hoke Bair Feed Mill for his entire career, retiring in 1993 following almost 50 years of service. He also worked at Revonah Spinning Mill and maintained a lengthy relationship with the Parkhill Fire Co., where he served as Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief and janitor. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his ten children, Susan Stuffle and her husband, James of Gettysburg, Barbara Redding and her husband, Leonard of Abbottstown, Beverly Bahl and her husband, Joe of Gettysburg, Rose Dietz and her husband, Bill of Dover, Sally Keller and her husband, Dave of Gettysburg, Donald McMaster and his wife, Jane of Gettysburg, Lori Kent and her husband, Doug of East Berlin, Patrick McMaster and his wife, Kathy of New Oxford, Thomas McMaster and his wife, Melissa of Hanover and Tammy Sanders and her husband, Brian of Gettysburg; 35 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Weaver of Hanover and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6084 W. Canal Rd, Abbottstown with The Rev. David Hereshko serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandson, James Redding, Russell McMaster, Barry Finneyfrock, Eric Keller, Derek Kuhn and Benjamin McMaster. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway with a prayer service being held at 8 pm.
