Donald C. Coop, 87, of Glenville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 23, 2015.
Born on Wednesday, November 9, 1927, in Wellsford, New Zealand, Donald is the third of four boys of the late Edwin Palin and Sara Cates Coop. Don grew up on a dairy farm and was farming before he attended the New Zealand Bible Training Institute in 1953-1954. He was accepted as a missionary with the Sudan Interior Mission and headed to Sudan in 1955. While he was there, he met his wife Ruby Sullivan. They married and served the Lord together for 25 years in Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia.
Upon returning to the States, Don worked as the landscape manager for Forest Lake Apartments in Lanham, Md., for 13 years until he retired. He was an active member of Grace Bible Church in Lanham. In recent years, he and Ruby moved to Glenville and were active at the Hanover First Church of God.
Surviving, are his daughter, Edie Coop of Glenville; his daughter-in-law, Tina Coop, and a granddaughter, Bailey Coop, both of Walkersville, Md.; three brothers, Bruce Coop of Southport, Australia, Frank Coop of Wellsford, New Zealand and Lindsay Coop of Hamilton, New Zealand; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Coop, who died in 2014, and a son, Robert Coop.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Friday, March 27, 2015 at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road, Hanover. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Hanover First Church of God. Pastor Dan Thomas will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at a reception on Saturday at the church following the memorial service.
