Donald L. Baumgardner, 54, of Hanover, husband of Debra Hartlaub Baumgardner, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 following a three and a half year courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 7, 1956 in Hanover, he was the son of Stewart and Mary Baumgardner and son-in-law of Ken and Joan Hartlaub, all of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Spangler and an infant brother.
Mr. Baumgardner was previously employed by R.H. Sheppard for 36 years and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, York Street. Enjoying the fellowship of others, he was a member of the Hanover Home Association, the McSherrystown Home Association, the New Oxford Social Club and the Hanover Eagles Aerie # 1406. His family was the most important part of his life; and he enjoyed hunting with his son and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, his parents and mother and father-in-law, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bieber and her companion, Todd West; a son, Craig Baumgardner and his wife, Michelle; three grandchildren, Jenna Bieber, Cade and Cora Baumgardner; a brother, James A. Baumgardner and his wife, Stephanie, all of Hanover; a sister, Patricia Weaver, of New Oxford; and three nephews.
The graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Paul’s (Dubs) Cemetery with The Rev. Tina Minnich officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Adam Baumgardner, Chip Bieber, Jason France, Tony Shermeyer, Jesse Thomaz and Shawn Wetzel. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 4-6 pm Sunday, November 28, 2010 and 9:30-10:30 Monday in the parlor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 North Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
