Donald W. "Grizz" Bair

Donald W. “Grizz” Bair, 96, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at his home.

Born on Thursday, December 2, 1926, he was a son of the late Hoke, Sr. and Elizabeth Wentz Bair. He was also preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Margaret A. Bair; a brother, Hoke Bair, Jr; and a grandson, Corey J. Bair. Donald was a veteran of the United States Navy, and a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. He was a long time elementary school principal for Hanover Public Schools and also spent time being self employed. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post #14 and served as the past commander and treasurer. He was also a long time chairman of the baseball league with the legion and was an active volunteer within the organization.

Survivors include four children, Scott Bair and his wife, Vicki, of Dillsburg, Jack Bair and his wife, Vonita, of Crossville, TN, J. Stephen “Buster” Bair and his wife, Donna, of Hanover, and Christine Bair, of Bridgewater, VA; five grandchildren, Angela Anderson, Brian Bair, Derek Bair, Matthew Johnson, and Brett Johnson; two step grandchildren, Danielle Ryder, and Ray Hess, Jr.; and six great grandchildren, Leah Anderson, Liam Bair, Phoenix Johnson, Cora Bair, Emory Johnson, and Blaze Johnson.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veteran Honor Guard.
