Dennis A. Baumgardner

Dennis “Uncle Si” Arthur Baumgardner, 73, of Spring Grove, husband of the late Patricia Ann Baumgardner, united once again in God’s eternal care on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his home, while holding his daughter’s hand and surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Saturday, August 2, 1947 in Hanover, he was a son of Lois Elaine Bosserman Baumgardner and the late John Harold Baumgardner. He was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 20 years, Patricia Brown Baumgardner, who died in 2003.

Dennis was a life-long truck driver, retiring in 2010 from a career that he loved with a passion. His passion began at the age of 13 when he would take the wheel of his father’s truck. He loved to create detailed model replicas of the trucks that he and those close to him drove throughout the years. He enjoyed driving his 1968 Peterbilt truck in the Make a Wish Foundation Convoy. He was a collector of trucks, coins, and antiques. He also loved to ride and care for horses. He participated in the Bicentennial Wagon Train pilgrimage back in 1976 and won numerous riding competitions throughout the years.

Dennis had such an authentic, fun-loving spirit. His sense of humor was one of a kind and he had a heart of gold. He would do anything for anyone. He made friends everywhere he went. He was a self-described redneck who loved beer, women, horses, trucks, and bluegrass music. He especially loved the song Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road. A song that will live in our hearts forever as a memory of him. His presence will be greatly missed but he will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Everyone who has met him says they wish they knew him longer. He brought so many people so much joy.

Survivors include his mother Lois Baumgardner of Hanover; daughter, Amanda Hickman and her loving companion Brian Sanders of Gettysburg; a step-daughter, Sherrie Stiltner of Gettysburg; step-sons, Randy Howard of Spring Grove; Gary Howard; Michael Howard; five siblings, Richard Baumgardner and his wife, Barbara, of New Oxford, Steven Baumgardner and his wife, Valetta, of Jefferson, Nancy Geisler and her husband, Bill, of East Berlin, Joan Miller and her husband, Melvin, and Carol Zinn and her husband, Marty, all of Spring Grove; one grandson Jerome Hickman, nine step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins and his Goofy’s friends and family.
