Dean B. Rohrbaugh, 88, of Hanover, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Hanover Hospital.
Born on Sunday, October 10, 1926 in York County, he was a son of the late George and Ada Rohrbaugh. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Rohrbaugh, who died in 2009.
Dean was a 1944 graduate of Eichelberger High School. Following his graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theater of World War II, and was part of the occupation of Japan in 1945. After returning to the U.S., he joined a minor league baseball team in Oklahoma, where he finished his last season as second baseman, batting over .400. Upon returning to Hanover, he married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Boose and began his career at the U.S. Post Office where he worked for 35 years before retiring.
During his retirement, Dean and Betty both enjoyed living in Florida during the winter months. He was an avid baseball and Baltimore Orioles fan. In addition, Dean loved playing cards, spending time with his family as a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Jill E. Riddle and her husband, John, of Alpharetta, GA; two grandchildren, Nicole (Riddle) Leesley of Minneapolis, MN., and Matthew Riddle of Atlanta; and a great-grandson, Brady Leesley.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm Friday, January 2, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, with The Rev. Kirk A. Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
