Darthea L. Becker Dusman, 88, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Thursday, June 16, 1927 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Elwood J. and Carrie Dubs Becker. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harold H. Dusman, who died May 22, 2015. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher from the age of 19. Darthea was active with the Christian Women’s Club, where she served as chairperson for two years and was a Bible study hostess and guide, and was a three time past president of the Lay, Life and Work group of St. Paul’s (Dubs) United Church of Christ. In 1985, she received recognition from the Penn Central Conference for her church work and in 2006, received the Call to Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic participation for her volunteer work. She was a volunteer with Hanover Hospital for 35 years and dedicated many hours to the American Red Cross and Blood Mobile, Homewood at Plum Creek and the Hoffman Home for Youth Auxiliary, of which she was a past president. She was a member of the Blue and Grey Quilters.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Dusman and his wife, Dianne, and Alan Dusman and his wife, Amanda, all of Hanover; two daughters, Dianne Dusman and her husband, James Halterman, of Wellsville and Linda Dusman and her partner, Susan McCully, of Baltimore; seven grandchildren, David Dusman and his wife, Shari, Tyler Billingsley and his wife, Laurel, and Chelsea, Cameron, Elliana, Max and Samuel Dusman; and three great-grandchildren, Stefany, Tiffany and Drew Dusman.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church with The Rev. Larry M. Estepp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover and one hour prior to the service at the church.
