Danny Groft

J. Daniel Groft, 80, of Hanover, beloved husband of Blanche Prokop Groft, died peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hanover Hospital following a sudden heart attack.

Born on July 3, 1934 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Preston John and Beatrice May Bierly Groft. He was employed by SKF, Inc. for 27 years before retiring in 1995. A very social and friendly man, he held memberships with Hanover Home Association, McSherrystown Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1406 and the New Oxford Social Club. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and in addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing cards and completing puzzle games.

In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, he is survived by three sons, Daniel T. Groft and his wife, Kelly of East Berlin, Mark A. Groft and his wife, Wendy and Scott A. Groft and his wife, Michelle; a daughter, Judy A. Clingan and her husband, Rick; three sisters, Joan Hartlaub and her husband, Ken, Nancy Brown and her husband, Donnie, and Mary Artrip and her husband, Cecil, all of Hanover; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine M. Little.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
