Corrina Celeste Mitten Mehiel

Corrina Mehiel, Burnsville NC

Corrina Celeste Mitten Mehiel, 34, of Burnsville, NC died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Washington, DC.

Born on Tuesday, March 23, 1982 in Seattle WA, she was the daughter of the late Starr Berwager Mehiel and Ron Mehiel and his wife, Lari of Seattle, WA. She was a 2001 graduate of Trinity Catholic High School in Camp Hill and a 2005 graduate of Penn State University, earning her degree in Art and Social Practice. She later attended the Philadelphia University of the Arts and finished her MFA at the University of Cincinnati.

She was a balance of force and beauty. She lived her life fearlessly. Even as a child, she was artistic and creative, taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. She was thoughtful and provocative; using art to bring awareness to the rights of women and minorities and to the injustices of the world. She was compassionate and friendly, making friends through experiences all over the world. Corrina had a quick wit like her father and shared hours of laughter with friends and family. She loved to dance and to make music with her friends. Her hands were strong and her mind open to love and change. She tried to engage with everyone she met and embraced the humanity of the world. The world was better with her it in.

In addition to her father and step-mother, she is survived by a large family, including three siblings, Brett Elias Mehiel of Hanover; Eric A. Mehiel and his wife, Kristen of Los Osos, CA and Jenifer R. Hollyfield and her husband, Juan Carlos of Seattle, WA; a niece, Maddie Mehiel; a nephew, Jackson Mehiel; a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Mitten Berwager; a paternal grandmother, Celeste Mehiel, both of Hanover and many loving friends around the world.

The Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at The Stone Mill 1792, 6210 Smoketown Road, Glenville, PA 17329. The family will receive friends following the service.

While she loved flowers and the juxtaposition of their beauty against the harshness of the world, the family requests that in addition to other memorials, contributions may be made to The National Organization for Women, P.O. Box 1848, Merrifield, VA 22116-1848 to end the violence against women or to V-Day, 4104 24th Street #4515 San Francisco, CA 94114, which is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.
