Clarence D. “Clem” Folmer, 79, of Spring Grove, husband of Donna J. Lau Folmer, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born on Monday, September 27, 1937 in Hanover, he was the son of the late John W. and Hilda M. Meckley Folmer. He was also preceded in death by his two four legged companions, Daphne and Kassie. A 1956 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he had been employed by Hanover Terminal for 44 years until his retirement in 1999. Clem enjoyed going to Florida in the winter, golfing, visiting the beach, fishing, playing cards, singing, dancing, swimming and entertaining many of his friends and family at parties that he held around his backyard pool. In the early stages of his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, he very much loved going to Golden Visions and visiting with new friends and caretakers.
A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover, Clem sang in the church choir, men’s chorus, and with the Hanover Community Singers for 20 years. He was also a 50 year member of the Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM and Penn Council #67 where he served as a past Thrice Illustrious Master, and a 50 year member and a past High Priest of the Hanover Royal Arch Chapter #310. He was a member and past commander of the Bethel Commandry #98 of the Grand Commandry of Knights Templar of PA, was a past Sovereign Master of the Sovereign Council #103 in 1989, and was also a former member of the High Twelve. In addition, he was a former member of the Hanover Republican Club, the Hanover Eagles Aerie #1406, and the Hanover Loyal Order of Moose #227. Clem was a member of the Hanover Elks BPOE #763 and was a past president of the CB Radio Club.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, survivors include one son, Christopher Folmer ; one grandson, Zachary Folmer, both of Hanover; a former daughter-in-law, Ronda Folmer, of Littlestown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with The Rev. Kate Schroeder. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with a Masonic Funeral Rite to be held at 7pm. The family will also receive friends from 9 to 11am Wednesday at the church.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses at Hanover Hall and to the caretakers at Golden Visions for the care they provided.
