Clair E. “Doc” Wise, 95, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Columbia Cottage.







Born on Wednesday, June 2, 1920 in Heidelberg Township, he was the son of the late Norman J. and Clara Day Wise. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Wildasin Wise, who died in 2003; a brother, Melvin Wise; and a sister, Blanche Nace.







Mr. Wise was a US Army verteran of World War II and was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ. After 36 years of employment as an electrician’s assistant, he retired from the P.H. Glatfelter Company, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the Papermakers Union 1303, the Hanover Home Association, AARP, and a life member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14. He enjoyed automobiles and collectibles and was proud to have served as past president of the Hanover Rod and Kustom Car Club, the Gettysburg Antique Auto Club, and the Hanover Coin Club.







He is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Judith A. Baugher; a sister-in-law, Martha Markle; two nieces, Carolyn Stayrook and Sandy Markle; and one nephew, Thomas Markle.







The funeral will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with Chaplain Gordon Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.







Judi and the family wish to express their appreciation to everyone who had a part in “Doc’s” care, including the “Angels” at Columbia Cottage and to the VNA Hospice staff, especially Tina Rogers, for the loving care shown to him.
