Christine M. Mitz

Christine M. Mitz, 79, of New Oxford, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, August 5, 2016 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Born on Friday, January 15, 1937 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Harry I. and Mary H. Ginter Hockensmith. She was also preceded in death by her son, Alan R. Mitz and seven siblings; Mae Reigle, Thelma Klein, Judy Klunk, Louise Schultz and Dennis, Cyril, and Robert Hockensmith.

A graduate of Delone Catholic High School, Christine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed eating crabs on her annual trip to Ocean City, MD with family and friends. Christine loved spending time with her family and took great pleasure in baking and enjoying all kinds of pies, sugar cakes and chocolate chip cookies. She was very astute and a great communicator and was always aware of the conversations going on around her.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Mitz-Soumai and her husband, Abdoul Razak; two sons, Bradley Mitz, Jr. and his fiancée, Stacey Lang, all of New Oxford, and Wayne Mitz, Sr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Hanover; two grandchildren, Stacey Rostorfer and her husband, Chris, and Wayne Mitz, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Shasta and Alex Rostorfer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons celebrating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8pm Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.
