Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt . Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Timothy Pfaff, Greg Walton, Mike Raborg, Sam Walton, James Clouser and Scott MacDonald.
Visitation: The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with a Rosary being said at 7:45 pm.
Charles Richard Rosensteel, 89, of Hanover, loving husband of 66 years to Frances Clouser Rosensteel, died peacefully Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.Born in Gettysburg on May 30, 1919, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Helen Zhea Rosensteel. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Sheads, Dorothy O’Dell and Betty Free and a brother, William Rosensteel.As a young man, he became an Eagle Scout, and learned always to be prepared in life. With that approach, he honorably served in the United States Army during World War II, participating in all five campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. Knowing the responsibility of duty and honor to his fellow servicemen, he was a member of the American Legion Post 14, AmVets, Hanover VFW, Catholic War Vets and the Allied Veterans Honor Guard. He was also a longtime member of the York Skin Divers Search and Rescue, a lifetime member of the McSherrystown Fish and Game and the McSherrystown Home Association. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus.A skilled carpenter and builder throughout the area, over 52 homes in Hanover were built by his hand and vision. He was a patient man, devoted to his family with a unique sense of humor and a positive outlook. He was one of a kind.Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Richard J. Rosensteel and his wife Sandra, Joyce A. Miller, Patricia A. Pruitt, all of Hanover, and Robert W. Rosensteel of New Oxford; A brother, Bernard F. Rosensteel and his wife Sue of Gettysburg; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
