Charles Leon “Buddy” Messinger, Jr., 70, of Hanover, loving husband of Deborah L. Crowl Messinger, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Florida.
Born on Friday, October 25, 1946 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Charles Leon Messinger, Sr. and Lydia Rowena Bollinger. A 1964 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve National Guard from 1965 to 1971. Buddy was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, was a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association, the Hanover Loyal Order of Moose Lodge#227, and enjoyed building and collecting cars. He was very proud to have owned a 1941 Ford Panel Truck, a 1965 Mustang, and a 1957 Henry J. Skilled with his hands, he worked as a mechanic for Third Street Garage for 14 years and also had numerous other jobs in his working career, one of which included running Buddy’s Lunch Truck.
In addition to his wife of 26 years, survivors include a son, Charles L. “Chuck” Messinger, III; a grandson, Zackery Messinger; a granddaughter, Kelsey Messinger; mother-in-law, Ethel L. Crowl; one aunt, Thelma “Sis” Bollinger; and six cousins.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Robin S. Keating officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
