Charles Alva LeGore, 88, beloved husband of Mary Jane LeGore of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, July 8, 2011 at Hanover Hall.
Born October 2, 1922 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Robert H. and Beulah Shafer LeGore and step-son of the late Blanche Strausbaugh LeGore. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. LeGore. He was a member of the Eichelberger High School Class of 1943.
In 1985, Mr. LeGore retired from the P.H. Glatfelter Company, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club, after more than 29 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, McSherrystown Home Association, Hanover Republican Club, was a square dancer with the Hanover Pacers for 20 years, and was a former member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. An avid outdoorsman in his earlier days, he enjoyed fishing at Codorus State Park and at the Outer Banks of North Carolina as well as hunting. Most importantly, he was a devoted family man.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 66 years, are two daughters, Lynne Williams and her husband, Raymond, and Sharon Czapp and her fiancé, Barry Sentz, all of Hanover; a half-sister, Phyllis Kagarise of Hanover; two grandchildren, Bart Stevens and his wife, Tina, of Hanover, and Robert O. Willams and his wife, Megan, of McSherrystown; five grandchildren, Desrayal, Leah, Byron and Rachelle Stevens, and Morgan Williams; and numerous cousins.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and there will be no public viewing.
