Charles R. Groft, 79, entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.

Born October 24, 1932 in York, he was a son of the late Francis P. and Perpetua Smith Groft, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary R. Groft. He retired in 1985 from the Groft Service Center in Hanover. Mr. Groft was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, Amvets Post #22, McSherrystown Home Association and the Hanover Republican Club. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing at South Hills Golf Club

Survivors include three children, Charles R. Groft, Jr., Christine Geiman of East Berlin, and Cory L. Groft of Littlestown; a step-son, Phillip Howe of Westmoreland, NY; a brother, Gerald E. Groft of Hanover; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis P. “Sonny” Groft.

The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 2-4:00pm Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:00am Friday, June 15, 2012 at Rest Haven Cemetery with The Rev. Malcolm Workman officiating. Military rites will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southeast New Life for Girls, 806 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21157.
