Charles G. "Chuck" Butler

Charles G. “Chuck” Butler, 82, of Hanover, husband of Patricia “Pat” Szekely Butler, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025 at his home.

Born on Sunday, July 12, 1942 in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Nelson A. and Evelyn F. Hogan Butler. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Elizabeth “Molly” Butler, who passed away in 2015; a daughter, Julie Warner; a great-grandson, Hayes Kemper; and two sisters, Mary Pangborn and Natalie Roth.

In addition to Pat, he is survived by his faithful furry friend, Charlie, two daughters, Cherie Raubenstine and husband, Andy, and Miri Kemper and husband, Neal; six grandchildren, Jake Kemper and wife, Kylie, Cole Kemper, Zach Kemper, Frankie Tyson and husband, Tyler, Dylan Raubenstine and Jared Raubenstine; two great-grandsons, Owen and Eli Tyson; three brothers, David Butler, Larry Butler and wife, Pat, and Mike Butler and wife, Deb; numerous adored nieces and nephews; three step-children, Richard Wesko and wife, Beverly, Darlene Hilbert and husband, Mike, and Jeffrey Wesko and wife, Wanda.

Chuck graduated from Salamanca High School in New York before spending 20 years proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force. During that time, he raised a family and had the opportunity to travel the world with them by his side. After his military service, he went on to enjoy a second career as a contractor for the National Security Agency.

Once he fully retired, Chuck continued exploring—both across the U.S. and around the globe. He’ll be fondly remembered for his warm hospitality and incredible cooking. His homemade desserts, salsas, jams, and famous spaghetti sauces were the highlights of his beloved Saturday night dinners. These weekly gatherings were filled with laughter, great food, and cherished time with family and friends.

A gathering to honor Chuck will be held at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc. (311 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331) on Saturday, April 5th, between 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. There will be no formal service —just a time to visit and share your love and support for Chuck and his family.

At the family’s request, a private interment and a celebration of life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made by purchasing a memorial tree through the funeral home website or a donation be made in honor of Chuck’s great-grandson, Hayes, to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Contributions will support ongoing research and greater understanding of Hayes’ rare condition, Pulmonary Vein Stenosis.

To make a gift via check, please make your check payable to the CHOP Foundation and include “Cardiac Research Fund in memory of Hayes Kemper” in the memo line. Checks can be sent to: CHOP Foundation, Attn: Allison Karp, P.O. Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352.
