Carolyn Ann Baumgardner Winand, 74, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
Born on Friday, February 19, 1943 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Charles David and Caroline Anna Gross Baumgardner and wife of 50 years to the late Alan G. Winand, who died in 2012. She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Cpt. John Winand and a sister-in-law, Sally Winand.
A 1961 graduate of Hanover High School, she spent her career in nursing. Finding fulfillment in both private duty and hospital settings, she ultimately retired from Hanover Hospital following 35 years of service. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she was active for many years with the Knit Wits. Skilled with her hands and a lot of patience, she crocheted and knitted many baby blankets to give as gifts. She had a discerning eye for art and was talented with both paint and pencil. She decorated her home and others’ with an unmatched flair and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Equally talented in the kitchen, she was best known for her beef pot pie. Perhaps her best legacy lies with her love for her family and how she was an adoring mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her three children, James Dale Winand, Amy Ehrhart and her husband, W. William, all of Hanover and Dr. David Alan Winand and his wife, Dr. Nancy Cooney of Lancaster; 12 grandchildren, James Winand II and Luke Winand, Emily and Elizabeth Ehrhart, Dale, Nancy, Mary, Autumn, David, Christopher, Jude and John Winand; two sisters, Suzanne J.
