Burnell F. “Shorty” Hockensmith, 82, of McSherrystown, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, February 28, 2022 at UPMC Hanover Hospital.
Born on Tuesday, August 29, 1939 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Albert James and Nellie Small Hockensmith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Nelson Hockensmith; and sisters, Cindy Wilson and Myrtle Hale. Burnell was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Chester, the McSherrystown and Hanover Home Associations, New Oxford Social Club, and the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association. He retired from the former Masterbrand Cabinets in Littlestown in 2004, enjoyed watching his grandsons Go-Kart racing, and in his younger years he hunting and fishing.
Survivors include the love of his life of 51 years, Ruth I. (Sipling) Hockensmith; five children, David W. Pascoe and his wife, Rosa, of Spring Grove, Barbara J. Griffie and her husband, Larry, Brenda K. Reifsnider and her husband, Thomas, all of Hanover, Tina M. Sipling, of McSherrystown, and Irene L. Pascoe and her companion, Robert Altland, of Hanover; four other daughters from a previous relationship; eleven grandchildren, Amy, Shawn, Amanda, Kevin, Frankie, Hunter, Levon, Shauna, Noah, Joshua, and Emma; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Delores Nelson, Anna Lecrone-Boggs, Arlene Noel, and Jane Hall; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Montana.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.
