Bobby L. Malkus

Bobby L. Malkus, 85, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Hanover Hospital.

Born on Thursday, July 23, 1931 in Baltimore, she was the only child of William Robert Pembrooke Jones and Mary Verna Harper Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 53 years, Henry J. Malkus, who died in 2004; a son, Philip Malkus, who died in 1960; and a granddaughter, Gwen L. Kelly, who died on October 15, 2016.

A 1948 graduate of Towson (MD) High School, Bobby was a 1951 graduate of the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore and, in 1972, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Joseph College in Emmittsburg, MD. In 1963, she began her career with the Visiting Nurses Association in Hanover as a staff nurse. She later became a nursing supervisor and retired in 1993 as President of VNA. Bobby was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and enjoyed painting, crocheting and was an avid reader.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy R. Malkus and his wife, Shirley, of Littlestown, and Matthew H. Malkus of Hanover; four grandchildren, Michelle Bohrer and her husband, Alvin, of Hanover, Gary Gilbert and his wife, Rachel, of Powder Springs, GA, Robert Malkus and his wife, Crystal, of McSherrystown, Yvette Hersh and her husband, Richard, of Hanover; a grandson-in-law, Greg Kelly of Hanover; and nine great-grandchildren, Caleb Kelly, Sebastian Glausier, Emma Kelly, Gabrielle and Zoe Malkus, Holli and Sarah Gilbert, and William and Anastasia Hersh.

The funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Kate Schroeder officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
