Bobbie N. Martin

Bobbie N. Martin, 71, of New Oxford, husband of Nancy L. Henderson Martin, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 24, 2010 following a lengthy illness of lymphoma.

Born on July 23, 1939 in Albemarle County, VA, he was a son of the late Austin and Ermie Hippeard Martin. He lived in Harrisonburg, VA before moving to Adams County, PA in 1979. He was employed in the poultry business for over 30 years, serving as supervisor for many of them. Most recently, he was employed by the Littlestown School District in the maintenance department.

Bobbie was a member of the New Oxford Social Club, the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association and the Hanover Eagles FOE Aerie #1406. He was devoted to and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, working in his yard, playing cards and occasionally trying his luck at the casinos.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by three daughters, Diane Sponseller and her husband, Rodney of Abbottstown, Donna Runkle and her husband, Dave of Hanover and Deb Altland and her husband, Charlie of East Berlin; six grandsons and one granddaughter; a brother, David Martin and his wife, Faye of Ruckersville, VA; a sister, Peggy Beddows of Orange, VA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ermie Jane Martin and Baby Martin.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens. His grandsons, Chris Basehoar, Ryan Runkle, Westly Runkle, Jacob Sponseller, Zachary Altland and Caden Sponseller and his brother, David Martin will be serving as pallbearers. The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
