K. William Mummert, 82, of Hanover, husband of Daryl Scheivert Mummert, passed on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Hanover Hospital after a brief illness following his treatment of lung cancer.
Born on December 12, 1930 in Hanover, he was the only child of the late Alvin and Olive Sharrer Mummert. He was a member of the Eichelberger High School Class of 1948 and later earned the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. After serving in the Korean War, he returned to the United States and was employed as a salesman by Shultz Chevrolet.
A member of Trinity United Church of Christ, he also maintained membership with the Hanover Elks B.P.O.E #763, and lifetime memberships with the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 and Hanover VFW Post 2506. Devoted to his family, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. He could be regularly seen every Saturday at the Hanover Market House sharing breakfast with his best friends.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hart and her husband Suds of Abbottstown; a son, Michael Mummert and his wife, Beth of Frederick, MD and four grandchildren, Adam and Seth Hart and Collin and Eliza Mummert.
The Memorial Service will be held 11 am on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Trinity United Church of Christ with The Rev. Brenda Marin officiating. Burial will be held privately in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
