Beverly Susan Ratzel

Beverly Susan Ratzel, 77, of Hanover, loving wife of Lawrence L. “Larry” Ratzel, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at her home.

Born on Friday, October 23, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Susan Kalanda Karpiak. She was a 1954 graduate of Bedford (Ohio) High School.

Mrs. Ratzel worked for Black and Decker, in Solon, Ohio, from 1954 to 1967 and retired in 1999 from the YMCA in Hanover. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go camping. She took great pleasure in reading, cooking and completing all types of puzzles.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of nearly 47 years, is a daughter, Linda Susan Crawford and her husband, Jerry, of Hanover; a son, John Louis Ratzel and his wife, Susan, of Westminster, MD; a sister, Lenore Dorson and her husband, Donald, of Richmond, RI; and two grandsons, Joseph Ratzel and Ethan Crawford.

The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 6 to 8 pm Friday, August 29, 2014 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. Services and burial will be held in Bedford, Ohio under the direction of the Johnson Romito Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
