Betty S. Bream, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully Friday, September 9, 2011 at home with her family and pastor by her side.
Born October 16, 1925 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Clarence E. and E. Louise Sullivan Shearer and wife of the late Glenn L. Bream. A 1943 graduate of Eichelberger High School, she was employed as a receptionist at Hanover Wire Cloth for many years. She was a member and greeter of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover and a former member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. She served as an officer with the Foxridge Homeowners Association.
Betty was an artist who worked with watercolors, oils, pastels, stained glass and ceramics. She created wire screen art, for which she held a patent. She was an avid golfer and former club champion at the Gettysburg Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with close friends. She loved animals, especially horses and dogs.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest, enjoying every day. She loved her family; her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlights of her life. Betty also cherished her many friends and neighbors, and enjoyed making everyone smile with her fun-loving sense of humor.
Survivors include her son, Jack D. Freet and his wife, Kay, of Hanover; two sisters, Frances G. Krichten of Spring Grove, and Nancy Ozdemir of Annapolis, MD; two grandsons, Brad Freet and his wife, Jean, of Arlington, TN, and Mike Freet and his fiancée, Peggy, of McSherrystown; three great-grandchildren, Lexi, Kaley and Bailey Freet; three nieces, Peggy Kauffman, Carol Zumbrum and Deniz Cribbs; two nephews, Erol and Erdal Ozdemir; one step great-grandson, P.J. Sneeringer; and a granddaughter-in-law, Missy Freet. She is also survived by her Yorkie "Muffin".
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 18, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover, with Reverend E. Edward Keyser officiating.
