Bernice R. Brown, 94, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on March 16, 1915 in Silver Run, MD, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Alverta Unger Baumgardner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Guy Brown, Sr. as well as her four brothers, Ernest, Fern, Theron and Melvin Baumgardner and her three sisters, Margie Diehl, Treva Hostetter and Leah M. Strausbaugh.
Mrs. Brown had lived in Joliet, IL for many years before moving to Hanover in the late 1970’s. She was a longtime member of Christ United Church of Christ and was involved with AARP and the Mallwalkers. She loved spending her time playing Bingo and cards.
Survivors include her sister, Gladys Wise, of Hanover; two step-children, Guy Brown, Jr. and Darlene Kane; and many nieces and nephews, of which Eleanor A. Bell and her husband Terry, Melvin “Sonny” Strausbaugh, Barbara A. Strausbaugh and her husband Ed and Sally A. Orendorff, all of Hanover, provided for her care.
The funeral will be held at 10 am Friday, December 4, 2009 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with her pastor, The Rev. Craig Arentz officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Bell, Ed Strausbaugh, Tom Bell, David Albright, Steve Bell and Robert Luckenbaugh. The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home.
