Services: Local services will include a viewing on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway. The funeral will be held in St. Louis, MO under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home, City Chapel. Burial will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

B. William “Mr.Bill” Vassel, 81, passed peacefully at his home in Hanover, Pa. on December 12, 2008 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 20, 1926 to Bolshef and Magdalena Vassel. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Laverne F. (Regh) Vassel. Dear father of Michael W. Vassel of St. Louis, Mo., and Deborah A. Harden (Dr. Wesley R. Harden III) of Hanover, Pa.. Dear Grandfather of Stacy (David) Baran of Manchester, MD, Spc. Wesley R. Harden IV, U.S.Army, and Lindsey R. Harden of Hanover, Pa., Michelle (TJ) Hunkins, Lisa (Stephen) Ryan, and Michael W. Vassel Jr., of St. Louis, Mo. Dear great-grandfather of Danielle, TJ, Bridget, Ethan, and Broghan Hunkins of St. Louis, Mo., Andrew and Matthew Baran of Manchester, MD., and Noah and Gabriella Ryan of St. Louis, Mo. Dear brother in law of William and Diana Kaye Regh of Spring Hill, Florida and Shirley Hall of Granite City, Illinois. Dear Uncle of 14 and God-father of Laura Hafner of Salem, Mo.. Bill served with the Sixth Marine Division during World War Two. Wounded on Okinawa, he received the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal , World War Two Victory Medal, and the Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal . Bill was a member of The Republican Club, Benevolent Paternal Order of the Elks, Life Member of the Hanover VFW Post 2506, Past Commanders Club in St. Louis, Mo., and the United States Marine Corp Post 206 of the American Legion in St. Louis, Mo., Life Member of The Disabled American Veterans and Life Member of The Order of The Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Forest Park College, earning a degree in business. He and his wife moved to Hanover in 1993. He was employed by a local Hanover answering service that assisted area businesses, and most recently worked for Dr. Wesley Harden as an office courier. Bill was an avid coin collector. He was devoted to his family and his dear dog, Charlie.
