August Gus Descheemaeker, 88, of Hanover entered into God's eternal care 3:25 a.m. Friday morning, August 3, 2007 at Homewood at Plumcreek. Born in Haledon, NJ on March 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Julius and Julienne Declercq Descheemaeker. Folowing graduation from Hanover High School with the class of 1937, Gus attended Lehigh University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in June 1941. He then applied for and was offered a position with the E.I. DuPont Company. Shortly thereafter, Gus proposed to his high school sweeheart Mildred Anthony. They were married on December 25, 1941. Gus continued his employment with DuPont until enlisitng in the US Navy on August 1, 1944. Following basic trainging, he was commisioned a Lt (jg) officer and served aboard the destroyer, USS HIGBEE in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his return from the war, Gus continued his employment with the DuPont Company until retiring as a Marketing Executive after 35 years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. In addition to his loving wife Mildred, he is survived by 2 sons William D. Descheemaeker of Snohomish, WA, Michael A. Descheemaeker of St. Petersburg, FL, and 3 grandchildren Michael, Gregory and Jennifer. Gus was preceded in death by two brothers Gerard and Henry Descheemaeker. Funeral services will be held at the conveniece of the family at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover.
