Arthur H. “Dewey” Kress, 91, of Hanover, beloved husband of Patricia Schuchart Kress, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024 at UPMC Hanover.
Born on Thursday, July 14, 1932 in Littlestown, he was a son of the late Roy Jules and Florence Mae Crist Kress. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Roy Kress; and two sisters, Charlotte Baumgardner and Gladys Bubb. Mr. Kress was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from SKF USA, Inc. after more than 20 years of service. He attended mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Post #2506, AmVets Post #22, and the Hanover and McSherrystown Home Associations. He enjoyed reading about World War II, and was an avid Penn State and Baltimore Ravens football fan.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 67 years, are four children, Peggy Spioch and her husband, Philip, of Westminster, MD, Steven Kress and his wife, Christine, of Spring Grove, Wanda Klunk and her husband, Thomas, of Hanover, and Diane Egbert and her husband, Paul, of Westminster, MD; five grandchildren, Nicholas Spioch, Alyssa Reed, Lindsey Kress, and Eric and Daniel Spioch; seven great-grandchildren, Teagan Goetz, Delaney Spioch, Charlotte Brodbeck, Talon Spioch, Palmer Brodbeck, Maverick Reed and Phoenix Spioch; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 5, 2024 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service.
