Anna Mae Shaffer

Anna Mae Shaffer, 78, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Hanover Hospital following an unexpected illness.



Born on October 4, 1932 in Littlestown, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Jeanette Rider Kress. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, William and Richard Kress and three sisters, Ama Laughman, Frances Shelton and Pauline Zartman.



She was employed by Sylvania Shoe Co. for many years and was a member of the McSherrystown Moose Lodge 720, the Hanover AmVets Post 22 and the Hanover VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her friend, Tex Royer as well as her cat, Marco, traveling to casinos with her girlfriends, playing bingo, and fishing with her son, Terry, grandson, TJ and great-grandson, Devin. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



Survivors include her daughter, Bonny Hartlaub Sweeney and her husband, Roger of Hanover; three sons, Ralph Hartlaub and his wife, Kay of Bonneauville, Gary Hartlaub and his wife, Paula of Winchester, VA and Terry Hartlaub and his wife, Anita of New Oxford; three granddaughters, Missy Hartlaub Schwartz, Julie Hartlaub Williams and Jessica Sweeney Conrad; two grandsons, TJ Hartlaub and Adam Sterner; four great-grandchildren, Sierra and Brandon Schwartz and Devin and Alexis Conrad; and a brother, James “Ozzie” Kress and his wife, Kay of Hanover.



The funeral will be held at 11:00 Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Kenneth S. Heasley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with Terry and TJ Hartlaub, Adam Sterner, Roger Sweeney, Devin Conrad and Brandon Schwartz serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.



Memorial contributions may be made to the McSherrystown Senior Center, 201 South 3rd Street, McSherrystown, PA 17344, which was a place where she enjoyed being an active member.
