Anna Mae Hoke, 90, of New Oxford, passed away peacefully Monday, November 15, 2010 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.
Born May 18, 1920 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Mattie Frey Miller, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Musselman. She was a 1938 graduate of Hanover High School, and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the YWCA, the Hanover Garden Club and the AARP Chapter #1842. While raising their family and managing their home, she owned and operated Anna Mae’s Beauty Shop on York Street for 32 years. She was an active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ Sewing Circle, was an avid knitter, and enjoyed working on various handicrafts that were donated to charities throughout the community.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Maurice W. Hoke; a daughter, Pamela S. Doty and her husband, Randall, of Lakeland, FL; two sons, Thomas C. Hoke of Natick, MA, and Michael C. Hoke and his wife, Linda, of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Emma Bollinger and Mabel Markle and her husband, William, all of New Oxford; one brother, Dr. Clarence Miller and his wife, Edith, of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
