Andrew G. Smith, 62, of Spring Grove, husband of Joan Kebil-Smith, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 28, 2022 unexpectedly at his home.
Born on Tuesday, February 23, 1960 in Gettysburg, he was a son of Thomas G. Smith and his wife, Joyce, of Hanover and Prudence Reichart and her husband, Frank, of New Oxford. A 1978 graduate of South Western, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Gettysburg College in 1982. Andrew retired in 2019 from the former Miller Chemical and Fertilizer Company where he was Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Production and Manufacturing and Vice President of Research and Development. He served as President of Marburg Estate Wineries for 20 years. He was of the Catholic faith, a member of the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus and McSherrystown Home Association, and a proud member of the Cobbers. Andrew was a stubborn golfer and an avid gardener who enjoyed cooking. His greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his children and other family members.
In addition to his wife of nearly 29 years, he is survived by a daughter, Ali Marie Smith; a son, Derek Andrew Smith, both of Spring Grove; two brothers, Thomas and Joel Smith; a step-brother, Mike Reichart; two step-sisters, Debbie Hartlaub and Kim Zinn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul G. and Marie Smith; maternal grandparents, Andrew and May Aliminosa; and his father-in-law, Joseph A. Kebil.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 2, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road in Hanover with The Rev. Mr. Chris Livelsberger officiating. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, and from 11:30 to 12:30 PM Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
