Althea Amanda Weikert, 88, formerly of Hanover, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Lookabout Manor, Westminster, MD.Born January 11, 1921 in New Oxford, PA, she was a daughter of the late A. Arthur and Effie Dayhoff Sponseller, and was the wife of more than 54 years of the late Harold E. Weikert, who died May 7, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Warren Sponseller.Mrs. Weikert was a 1941 graduate of New Oxford High School and was a waitress at the Richard McAllister Hotel and the Hanover Diner, from which she retired. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Whitehall.Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis W. Egger of Hanover; a sister, Ferne Gardner of Gettysburg; a sister-in-law, Mildred Sponseller of Hanover; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, 1018 White Hall Road, Littlestown, PA 17340 or to VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove Endowment Fund, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
