Services: A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Dudley's life will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday morning, MARCH 10th, 2007, in the Homewood at Plumcreek Chapel, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA. There will be no viewing.
Visitation: The family will meet with friends following the Memorial Service.
Allen R. Dudley, 90, formerly of Westminster, MD, Wilmington, DE, and Fallston, MD, died 11:41 A.M. Wednesday morning, February 21, 2007 at Homewood at Plumcreek, Hanover, PA. He was the loving husband of Caroline Smith Dudley to whom he was married on June 23, 1939. Born in Baltimore, MD on October 4, 1916, he was the son of The Rev. James A. Dudley, a minister in the Baltimore Conference of The Methodist Church and Elsie Rolle Dudley. Mr. Dudley was a graduate of Baltimore City College, class of 1932 and Western Maryland College in 1936. During World War II, he served his country for three and one half years as an officer in Army Intelligence. Mr. Dudley was employed by Congoleum Corporation, first as a chemist and finally as manager of plants, with locations at Finksburg, MD, Marcus Hook, PA and Trenton, NJ. During his career he was an active contributor to the development of numerous products and processes. He retired in 1981 after 45 years of service. Since 1991 he and his wife have lived at Homewood, where he has been active in community affairs, serving three years as president of the Resident's Association. For more than ten years he had been a volunteer in Tax Counseling for the elderly. Although Mr. Dudley enjoyed a long and distinguished career, earning many accomplishments along life's journey, he was most proud of his family and the love and life they shared. In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by a son John A. Dudley and his wife Diane of St. Petersburg, FL, a daughter Janet Dudley-Eshbach and husband Joseph of Salisbury, MD, Daughter-in-Law Karen Dudley of Selbyville, DE and six granchildren. Preceding him in death was a son James S. Dudley.Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Krider's Church Cemetery, Westminster, MD.
