Allen Eugene Altland

Allen Eugene Altland, 59, of Hanover, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home.



Born on Thursday, January 26, 1956, Allen was a son of Lucy I. Cutshall Altland of Hanover and the late Vane E. Altland, and grandson of the late Harry and Doris Cutshall and Merle and Beatrice Altland. He was also preceded in death by an uncle, Colin Altland.



Allen graduated from Hanover High School in 1974, where he was well known for excelling as an athlete in both basketball and baseball. He later coached Boys 7th and 8th grade basketball for 19 years and baseball for six years. He worked as a service representative for Rental Uniform Service - Cintas from 1979 to 2011, where he later became shipping coordinator and was awarded Driver of the Year in 1984. Allen was also employed by the South Western School District as a custodian at Baresville Elementary School from January of 2011 to June of 2015. He was a member of the Hanover First Church of God and enjoyed Notre Dame Football, being by the ocean, and watching sports and old movies on television. He also enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track racing, and was an avid fan of the late Dale Earnhardt.



In addition to his mother, survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 36 years, Sharon K. Stolte Altland; two children, Brandon A. Altland and his wife, Nicole, of Chambersburg and Sommer Altland Hoffman and her husband, Roy “Chase”, of Ashburn, VA; a granddaughter, four month old Kendall Grace Altland; a sister, Lori A. Altland of Hanover; two brothers, Terry L. Altland of Hanover and Jeffrey L. Altland of York; nephew, Cody Altland of Hanover; niece, Alexa Altland of York; aunts and uncles, Larry and Jeannette Hart of Hanover, Ken and Jody Hagerman of York; and cousins, Michael Hagerman, David Hart, and Matthew Hart.



A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Hanover First Church of God with Pastors Jerry Shoap and Dan Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.
