Allan T. “Tom” Miller, 90, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, August 18, 2017 at York Hospital.
Born on Thursday, May 26, 1927 in McSherrystown, he was a son of the late Augustus E. and Edna Ackerman Miller. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Marian Louise Miller, who died on March 23, 2017; a brother, Augustus E. Miller, Jr.; and two sisters, Yvone Grimes and Allannah Miller.
Tom was a proud US Army veteran of World War II. Following the war, he was employed by the R.H. Sheppard Company, the Naval Ordnance plant in York, AMF and retired after 42 years of service from Harley-Davidson in 1992. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church and the Harold H. Bair American Legion #14, a life member of the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association and a volunteer with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Always looking for a good deal, he enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales. Tom will be remembered for being a constant “tinkerer”.
Survivors include three children, Linda A. Markle and her husband, Bill, of Gettysburg, Scott T. Miller and his wife, Holly, and Christopher J. Miller and his wife, Wanda, all of Hanover; five grandchildren, Corey Markle and his wife, Megan, of Gettysburg, Eric Markle and his wife, Amanda, of Biglerville, Mark Robinson and his wife, Luana, of McSherrystown, Meleah Lewis and her husband, John, of York, and William Miller of Hanover; and four great-grandchildren, Aisling and Harrison Markle, and Maya and Jocylin Robinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday, August 24, 2017 at St. Vincent dePaul Church with The Rev. Michael P. Reid, II serving as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with a prayer service at 8 pm.
