Alan John Despines, 60, of Hanover, lost his three year battle against A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Sunday, December 26, 2010. He was the husband of 25 years to Amy L. Despines.

Born January 9, 1950 in Sewickley, PA, he was a son of Florence Burlett Stefanacci of Pittsburgh, and the late John N. Despines. In 1967, he graduated from Ambridge High School,and proudly joined the United States Navy to serve in the Vietnam War. He was a well decorated Aviation Ordnanceman-Petty Officer Second Class, earning a purple heart among other honors.

Mr. Despines was a dedicated 37 year employee of the R.H. Sheppard Co. He enjoyed vacationing with his family at Raystown. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and boating. He will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother are his three children, Molly Leister, Alison N. Despines, and Alex A. Despines, all of Hanover; one sister, Linda Despines of Pittsburgh; four brothers, Donald Despines and H. Leo Stefanacci both of Pittsburgh, and John and Michael Despines both of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Avenue, Hanover with Pastor Geraldine Godfrey officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service.
