Abigail I. Thomas, 89, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community.



Born on November 3, 1923 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Bertram E. and Mabel E. Berkheimer Moore and wife of the late Luther J. Thomas, Sr., who died in 1993. The last of her immediate family, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Allyn and two brothers, Frank B. and Robert Moore. A 1942 graduate of Eichelberger High School, she later attended Thompson Business School. She was employed by Bell Telephone and P.H. Glatfelter Co. before staying home to raise her family.



An active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, she served on the consistory, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a Brownie Troop leader. Also active within the community, she was a member of the DAR, the Hanover Elks Lodge # 763 B.P.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary, the YWCA Garden Club, the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary and the Hanover Historical Society.



She is survived by her four daughters, Ann Phillips and her husband, Jim of Annapolis, MD Mary G. Bair and her husband, Michael, of Hanover, Nancy Daniel and her husband, Mark, of East Berlin, Sally Migatulski and her husband, Michael of Boiling Springs; one son, Luther J. “Jack” Thomas and his wife, Laura of Marlton, NJ; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.



The funeral will be held 11 am on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ with The Rev. Patricia A. Leader officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The viewing will be held from 9 to 10:45 am prior to the service at the church and the family will receive friends following the interment.
