A. Viola James, 95, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, April 19, 2013 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born June 13, 1917 in Dickinson County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Aily Elizabeth Rasknic Grizzell. She was the wife of the late Orville Augustus James, who died in 1986; and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis and Henry Grizzell, and three sisters, Ernestine Bruce, Cornelia Congleton and Virginia Raymond.
Mrs. James was a nurse’s aide at Hanover Hospital for six years and at the Brethren Home for eight years until retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – York Street, and was a volunteer with PAL Lunches and served as a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include her children, Sheila D. Trump and her husband, Carl, and Sallie P. Smith and her husband, Gary, all of Hanover, Wayne N. James and his wife, Susan, of Gettysburg, Cynthia F. Teel and her husband, Doug Baker, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Candy H. Krebs and her husband, Dennis, of Cockeysville, MD; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Pam, Nathan T., Andrew, Prudence, Courtney, Eric, Nathan J., Billie Jo, Josh and Marc; and numerous great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – York Street with The Rev. Robert L. Hoover, Jr. officiating. Burial will be private at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 10-11 AM Tuesday in the church parlor.
