Charles P. Roland, 87, of Hanover, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Homewood at Plum Creek following a brief illness.
Born on June 12, 1927 in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Kathryn Daniels Roland and husband of 56 years to the late Ruthmary Biery Roland, who died in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Don Roland.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and later served in the United States Army Reserve in the late 1950’s. He was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College and was employed by many years by the Malcolm and Revonah Spinning Companies as well as the Fred Whitaker Company as a Sales Manager. Active in the Boy Scouts of America, Charles served as a Cub Scout Cubmaster, Boy Scout Scoutmaster and Explorer Adviser. Active in church, he volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and currently held his membership with Cohutta Presbyterian Church in Georgia. He was an avid model plane, train and ship builder.
He is survived by two sons, Scott C. Roland and his wife, Karen of Hanover and Todd Roland and his wife, Beverly of Dalton, GA; five grandchildren, Biery Roland, Angela Bishop, Scott Roland, Andy Roland and Krista Hammondtree.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Kathryn A. Schroeder officiating. Burial will be alongside his wife in United Memorial Gardens, Dalton, GA at a later date.
